Do I need a referral to see Osteopath?
No, you do not need a referral to see an Osteopath.
However, if you would like to see our Osteopath’s for treatment under Workcover, TAC or Department of Veteran’s Affairs, you will require a GP referral. Please inform our friendly reception staff if this applies to you.
Our Osteopaths regularly receive referrals from GP’s, maternal child health nurse’s, podiatrists and personal trainers. We will communicate and work closely with your referring practitioner to ensure the best possible outcome for your condition.
Can I claim on Private Health Insurance?
Yes, most Private Health Funds will cover a portion of the cost of treatment (providing you have Extra’s cover). We recommend you contact your Health Fund prior to treatment to determine what your policy includes.
Is Osteopathy covered by Medicare?
Osteopathy is not covered by Medicare unless you are referred by your GP under the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Program.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring any previous investigations that are relevant to your condition- Xrays, Ultrasounds, CT and MRI scans.
How long does an appointment take?
– Initial consultations are 45-60 min in duration
– Subsequent consultations are 30 mins in duration
What should I expect during my first consultation?
All new patients to our clinic will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire detailing your medical history.
During your consultation, our Osteopath’s will take a thorough case history including details of presenting complaint, previous and current medical conditions, past injuries/accidents and medications.
An examination will be performed in order to establish a diagnosis. Examination includes assessing joint range of motion, areas of muscle tension and if indicated, orthopaedic and neurological testing.
Your Osteopath will then explain the nature of your condition and proposed treatment plan.
Treatment includes a variety of techniques including soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation/articulation, stretching and gentle manipulation.
